Push is a platforming game made by IanSynder for the Casual Collective. The game is described as a 'platform game with a twist'. The player steers a pixelish character through a field towards the sun to complete a level. The twist is the ability to morph the terrain using the mouse in order to reach the end.

Gameplay

The goal of Push is to guide the character across the level from a set starting point to the goal. The character is controlled with the arrow keys, or with the gaming standard WASD. Falling off the bottom of the screen, being squished between moving terrain blocks, or touching fire kills the character, who can then be respawned at the starting point. Parallel to the characters movement, the player can also manipulate the layout of the terrain. Whenever the primary mouse button is held down the pointer repels most types of terrain, when the mouse button is released the terrain snaps back into place. Using this 'push' mechanic players can create new paths through the level. It is usually impossible to reach the goal just by running and jumping, which forces the player to use the pushing mechanic extensively. Great skill with both character control and push control is required to beat the later levels.

Terrain in Push comes in seven varieties:

  • Grass can be stood upon and pushed.
  • Brick blocks can be stood upon, but cannot be pushed.
  • Ice blocks can be stood upon, but have no friction.
  • Fire blocks will kill the character if accidentally touched.
  • Old Boxes will deteriorate if the character stands on them. After a short period the box disappears entirely. It will shortly respawn, and can squish the character if it respawns in his space.
  • Bounce pads will launch the player much higher and farther than a normal jump. Bounce pads can be pushed.
  • Sun blocks are the goal of the level. Touching it will allow you to advance to the next level. These blocks can be pushed, and there may be more than one on a level.

Glitches and Bugs

  • With reversed gravity and jump, the character can jump with his head.
  • Often times, the player will not be able to move at all which is a glitch that makes some players unable to play
  • Also often, "Press any key to respawn" stays on the screen.
  • Sometimes the game does not recognise a registered member so the level editor is blocked to some people.
