On the Casual Collective a user's level is a number indicating the skill and dedication someone has spend on the site. It is a generalization of a user's sitewide points, which are gained by playing games. More points are awarded for playing skillfully, but a user's sitewide points will never decrease. Because of this, playtime is as important as skill in determining level. Levels are only available to registered users. They are shown next to each player's username in virtually any place on the website, but never inside games.

Mechanic

Site levels serve two purposes on the Collective.

  • The level (the number next to users' name everywhere) shows commitment to the site.
  • Leveling up unlocks extra features.

It is not a measure of skill in games, instead it is a measure of how much one uses the site and how commited one is to the website.

The level and the number of points needed to reach the next level is displayed in the top right corner of the site for logged in members. A note is sent whenever a new level is reached, eventually telling that something has been unlocked. The current maximum level is 6065 67 since the 20th of November, 2009. All maximum levels were first reached by a user named Caterpie. Two other users called Cardyak and Elculo has reached the present maximum level.

Unlocking content

As one's level increases additional features of the site reserved for higher level members unlock. This is to reduce spam and prevent abuse of the club found system by duplicate accounts. Also there is a posting limit that levelling up raises.

  • Level 1+: Can shout
  • Level 5+: Can post in forums
  • Level 5+: Can found a new club
  • Level 20+: Can edit this wiki

Posting limits

After Events, the admins decided that they needed to be a posting limit for users to allow spam attacks to be much less effective. This posting limit is raised by level. Here are the limits:

  • Level 5-10 - 2 posts per hour
  • Level 10-20 - 6 posts per hour
  • Level 20+ - 30 posts per hour

Earning points

Through playing games

Points are calculated by adding up and balancing the Game Points for each game; the current system of balancing points is designed to encourage members to play all games rather than just one or two.

The system works by reducing the importance of high scoring games if you also have low scoring games, for example:

Minions = 1000 points Desktop Armada = 500 points Buggle Connect = 100 points DTD Pro = 0 points

The calculation orders the games from high scoring to low scoring and then performs the following function:

High = High-((High - Low)/2)

Minions: 1000 - ((1000 - 500) / 2) = 750 Desktop Armada: 500 - ((500 - 100) / 2) = 300 Buggle Connect: 100 - ((100 - 0) / 2) = 50

Total: 750+300+50 = 1100 points

In practice this means that when equal points have been gained in every game, game points are weighed as 1 towards sitewide points, while if someone has played just one game the game points only count as half a sitewide point.

Through other means

As the site level is a measure of commitment or use of the site and not skill based there are other ways of earning points:

  • Right now there is a promotion on where 600 points are gained for buying 1100 credits (10 US dollars), 1000 points are gained for buying 1650 credits (15 US dollars), and 1500 points are awarded for buying 2200 credits (20 US dollars) from the Store.
  • Points can also be earned from completing tasks which are located on your profile page. These include: gifting somebody, creating an avatar, posting the location on the map and more.
  • Additional ways to earn points are being worked on.
