History

Together with the launch of Casual Collective 2, DesktopTD 1.9 was released. Despite offering some new features, it also was quite full of bugs. After a while of work on the next version, DesktopTD 2.0, was started. When nearing the release, Grrr decided DesktopTD Pro would be a more appropriate name than 2.0, since 2.0 sounds like a major release. Desktop TD Pro has been released to the public on April 1st, 2009. The reception was positive.

Game changes

The biggest addition to DesktopTD in this version was Sandbox mode. This gives players much more control of the way they like to play the game. Apart from that it can mostly be seen as a bugfix release, fixing some large bugs of 1.9.

Modes

There is four modes in DesktopTD Pro: Scenario, Sandbox, Sprint and Multiplayer.

Scenarios

There is a total of 24 scenarios. These are small levels, that combine a tutorial-like play with some challenging maps. A point total is calculated for these. With completing scenarios, new backgrounds can be unlocked.

Sandbox

New to DesktopTD Pro is Sandbox mode. In this mode the player can customize the game to one's wish completely, by setting amount of money, types of creeps, type of maps, etc. A multiplier is then used to calculate a final score, based on difficulty.

Sprint

Unlike the Scenario and Sandbox modes where creep waves arrive at set times, in a sprint a wave arrives only once the wave before has been defeated. So the faster you defeat each wave the faster your time thus more points you score.

Multiplayer

In this mode two to six players Sprint simultaneously with a game set up of their choice. Winner is the player with the most points, points are given for creeps killed and lives left after all 50 waves, an additional 20 points is given per wave to the player that finished that wave fastest.
