The Casual Collective Chat is a way to communicate with other members in a direct way. The chat is available to all logged in members. Usually there are not many people in chat unless there is a radio show going on at that time. Chatting can only be done in groups subscribed to. In order to join a chat the little speech bubble next to the group in the clubs tab must be pressed.

History

The chat feature on the Casual Collective has gone through many phases of development. On Casual Collective 1 there was a fairly basic Flash chat application. During the beta of Casual Collective 2 a new AJAX based chat feature was placed in the sidebar, which was loved by many. For technical reasons however it had to be scrapped. A chat similar to the one on CC1 replaced it before the release of CC2. After Sencerd had made the site completely AJAX-based (CC 2.5), a new chat applet was added, inside the sidebar. This chat, the Meebo chat, was offered by a third party, limiting the possibilities to customize. On the 15th of May of 2009 it was taken away, with the promise of something else coming back. Only days later the Meebo chat was added back. Now however it was no longer in the sidebar but opened in a new window.

In-game chat

Apart from the sitewide chat, there is also a chat feature in every multilayer game. Players in a specific game can chat with each other. It is not possible to chat in the game lobby.

Emoticons

The chat also supports emoticons, check out the following image to see them. Not all of them work though. List of emoticons is here.
