CC Wiki:Discussion
From CC Wiki
This is the place to discuss things that bug you, or ask questions. I have set it up, because I had some issues myself that need to be discussed and there was no place for it yet. If you wish to make a new topic, place it in a header please (==like this==) so things are separated by topic. --Pino 23:05, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Username namespace
At Wikipedia it is a golden rule that the username namespace is private domain (the user pages, such as user:Pino). That means that user:critters is for example only edited by Critters himself (unless there is content that is against the rules on it of course, that may be removed). At this wiki a lot of people have been editing other's user pages. This is most probably with the best intentions, no doubt about that, but I propose we leave user pages alone. In stead of that users that are noteworthy can be given an article in the main area. That means we create an article Critters, Sencerd and Grrr. This leaves the userspace to them for doing their own crazy stuff without being part of the wiki itself. I personally don't think there is many other members that are noteworthy enough for the general audience to have an article about, but if most disagree we can discuss that of course :-) (apart from MrsCritters of course; princesses deserve a wiki on their own :P). So what do others think? I think we should keep user:-pages separated from normal pages, because if someone wants to put crazy stuff on his/her page it is their own choice and this should not cause issues because it is part of the other serious information. --Pino 23:05, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Crazy stuff eh? Am I allowed to turn my profile into a rickroll then? t2t2 Talk 23:54, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
- Yea, that's pretty much the idea :P. Would be nasty if someone is linked from the main part and it suddenly is a rickroll, but if it is clear that they are userpages not normal pages, that's fine. --Pino 08:01, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- I quite agree with this. This best be done soon.

Appointment of Sysops/Adminstrators/Moderators
Will these be appointed directly from Critters/Grrr/Sencerd? Im just curious as this site is run by the community for the community, and hence a good strong team of Sysops/mods with the ability to facilitate the growing of this wiki would more preferred over having just 4 people ensuring that content is not vandalized, is accurate and could also facilitate in the faster addition of material.
Laxaria - Casual Collective 15:14, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think so. But I don't see this is as a problem, unless it grows really big. The reason is that the abilities normal users have are plenty. The only extra ability I have is permanently delete things, which is useful in the case of articles that are accidentally named wrong. For the rest renaming things, reverting changes, adding pages, changing categories, can all be done by everyone. And you are absolutely free in doing so. --Pino 16:42, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- And editing pages in the Mediawiki: namespace, too, which might pose a problem if I keep bugging Pino to change things. Eventually, it might just be easier for him to bug Sencerd to just give me the "sysop bit", but for now I'm fine with bugging Pino (at least until he gets tired of things).
- But anyway the point of a wiki is that everyone can do as much as possible: see the MeatballWiki blurb on this sort of thing. Orngjce223 23:17, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Markup
Umm... so I just copied my sig over from Wikipedia, right? And it came up like this-
- '<font face="Bradley Hand ITC"> <font color="#F88017"> -[[User:Hairchrm|<font color="#F88017"> '''ђαίгснгм''' </font>]] [[User talk:Hairchrm|<font color="#F88017"> таιќ </font>]]</font> </font> 01:22, 17 April 2009 (UTC)'
Where on Wikipedia it shows up like this-
- - ђαίгснгм таιќ 01:00, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Except in orange and a different font (in case you can't read the html stuff that says "font color" and "font style")
Yeah, so I'm guessing html markup doesn't work like on Wikipedia? Or... I dunno, any ideas? I like my old sig, but I'll change it if there is no markup. Of course, it would be cooler if someone could explain to me how we're supposed to do markup and stuff, as it might be useful in the future, or just maybe enabled it on the server or whatever it takes to make that work.
Yeah... so many thanks in advance for either filling me in on what's happening, or fixing the problem.
Nice going on the Wiki so far!
- It seems that it won't accept these kind of things. While I was not aware of that, I personally don't disgret it. I like clean signatures, sorry :)
Rules
Talk:Cutter Game was recently brought to my attention. Some rules should be required as for what should be included and what shouldn't. I already have a {{rule}} template to do it, but I wasn't sure whether I would be able to use it unilaterally (probably not a good idea). Orngjce223 23:15, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Some people seem to think more articles is better, which is not true. I think it is quite hard however to determine what is and what is not allowed. It especially bugs me when people make articles of something that don't add any more than the main article themselves (such as ghost mode), since that only makes it more complex. For now I say we can decide on a per page basis since making good rules is pretty hard, unless you have some suggestions --Pino 11:03, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Yea, for now we can just wing it, but if this takes off (which it likely won't) we'll probably need to make real rules about this sort of thing. Orngjce223 23:00, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
Main Page
Imo, the Main Page looks pretty bad. I'd like to give it a better look, but I am not capable of that I think. As a first thing to make it look better we should have some text, not only lists. With these lists it is too hard to make it look nice, if not impossible. Anyone wants to give it a try? Play around at Main Page/new --Pino 21:05, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
I could try and make it better
--Zodiac 03:46, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- K, cool. I think we should add a few blocks like on Wikipedia main page, such as "article of the month" (not of the day, cuz that is a crazy lot of work) and "did you know". Combined with a list of games maybe that would look better than the current list of everything. It should be more attractive if possible --Pino 07:32, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
A contest
I had this idea a while ago already, but forgot about it back then. What do people think of having a writing competition? Basically once chooses an article or a subject and expands this to a good level. Contributions are then judged, the best editor gets a nice price (Minions upgrade or something). This would need a few things; first of all, some people to join (anyone interested), prices (possibly I can arrange something; but this should be doable if we can get others right), some attention (so we get more to join and more to join contest). Anyone interested/thinking this could be successful? --Pino 21:05, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, we could try this. Orngjce223 16:09, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Sidebar
Hey. I found out that I can edit the sidebar links (the navigation, main page, community portal, etcetera). That means I can add useful links and remove less useful ones. But finding the right way to do this and the right links to place is not so hard. Suggestions here please! --Pino 09:44, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Is it possible to have a 'Most Popular Pages' link, that gives a list of the top 10/20/50 most visited pages, like the BBC has?
- CBN
- Hey, thanks for the suggestion. That would be the following page: Special:PopularPages. It is probably possible to link to that. But as you can see it is poorly styled and more of a technical page then userfriendly one unfortunately :(. One of my plans still is to redo the main page to be less list-wise and most popular pages would be an interesting part of that actually. --Pino 11:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
I can understand, but may I also add that that list doesn't take into account Users. Would that be a possibility in the future? CBN
I would like a "Read me first!" link for beginners to tell how to use "Show preview" and so on.. --honeybee 15:52, 14 Jul (UTC)
- @CBN. That's an interesting question, but I am afraid not. The Wiki software is really focused towards making an encyclopedia. On CC the focus is more towards users. So most features on this wiki are only available for articles I think.
- @honeybee... That should be part of the "Wiki help" part. The help files are far from done, but I hope the link is clear enough to lure people who need help there. --Pino 17:53, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
